September Dialogue – Concepts of Social Justice and Human Dignity in Judaism, Christianity and Islam

The next JIDS dialogue will be held at 2:30 on Sunday, September 28th, at the Oasis Salon, 825 Rockville Pike, Suite C, Rockville, MD 20852.  (Oasis, which is owned by a practicing Muslim, Ms. Wafaya Abdallah, has often hosted social justice meetings, and we are honored to hold our first JIDS meeting at this venue.)    The topic will be “The Concepts of Social Justice and Human Dignity in Judaism, Christianity and Islam” and we will have speakers representing each of these faiths.  The Jewish speaker will be Rain Zohav.  Rain serves in invaluable roles at two local Jewish congregations.  She is the Educational Director at Shirat HaNefesh.   She is also a 6th year student in the rabbinic program at Aleph, Alliance for Jewish Renewal.   Joining Rain on the panel will be Imam Haytham Younis, who we all know as a JIDS co-founder, a tremendous Muslim scholar, and a man whose secret desire was to have been a Borscht Circuit comedian.   The third panelist will be Father Lee Davis, who serves as Rector of the St. Anne’s Episcopal Church in Damascus, MD.   Father Davis was formerly the Priest-in-Charge at St. Andrew’s of Hollywood, Florida and we are thrilled to welcome him to the JIDS community.  Please note that while some people will be honoring the Jewish fast of Gedaliah on the afternoon of September 28th, this is totally optional, and people should feel free to bring beverages or snacks.
