March Dialogue: Muslim/Jewish Engagement in Germany: A Refusal to be Enemies

On Sunday, March 19th, from 2:30 – 5:00 p.m., JIDS will present a dialogue entitled “Muslim/Jewish Engagement in Germany: A Refusal to be Enemies.” The Muslim Community Center, 15200 New Hampshire Ave., Silver Spring, MD has graciously agreed to host the dialogue. At this program, JIDS Co-Founder Daniel Spiro will be interviewing Armin Langer, the young activist who since 2013 has coordinated the Berlin-based Jewish-Muslim initiative called “Salaam-Shalom.” We will explore Jewish and Muslim life in Germany and the state of Muslim/Jewish engagement in that country.
Armin Langer was born in Munich in 1990 in a family of Hungarian immigrants and grew up in Vienna and in the Hungarian town of Sopron. After high school, Armin studied philosophy at the Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest and spent the summers of 2012 and 2013 learning in the Conservative Yeshiva in Jerusalem. Between 2013 and 2016 he was a rabbinical student at the Abraham Geiger College in Berlin. In recent years, Armin has been active as a teacher and as a cantor in several Jewish communities across Europe, and he has worked as a freelance journalist, successfully publishing articles in various newspapers. Armin’s first book, “Ein Jude in Neukölln” (A Jew from the No-Go-Area), was published in 2016.
